When seconds matter

Emergency care, two ways.

Virtual emergency care is included on Silver and Platinum — instant evaluation, guidance, and prescriptions when something serious comes up. In-person ER coverage is available through Platinum Plus, with cost sharing after your chosen IUA deductible.

For a life-threatening emergency, call 911 Don’t wait. Virtual emergency care is not a substitute for 911 or in-person ER for severe trauma, chest pain, stroke symptoms, or other critical events.

Two Paths to Emergency Care

Virtual evaluation, or in-person ER

Most emergencies don’t actually need an ambulance. For everything between “something’s wrong” and “call 911,” virtual emergency care gets you a clinician fast. For true ER visits, Platinum Plus is the path that adds cost sharing after your IUA.

Virtual Emergency

Care in minutes, from anywhere

Connect to a licensed clinician by phone or video for urgent symptoms that need a professional eye — without leaving home.

  • 24/7 access by phone or video
  • $0 visit cost
  • Symptom evaluation and clinical guidance
  • Prescriptions when clinically appropriate
  • Triage advice on whether you need in-person ER
  • Follow-up coordination if needed

In-Person ER

Cost sharing for real ER visits

When you need an actual emergency room — severe trauma, chest pain, stroke symptoms — Plus kicks in cost sharing after your chosen IUA. Any hospital, no network restrictions.

  • Any doctor or any hospital — no network
  • Cost shared after your IUA ($1,250, $2,500, or $5,000)
  • No annual or lifetime sharing cap
  • One IUA per medical need (not per visit)
  • 12-month symptom-free reset on the same condition
  • Three IUAs max per household per rolling 12 months

When to Use Which

Three levels, in order of urgency

Knowing which level of care to use saves time, money, and sometimes lives. Use this as a quick decision guide — but when in doubt about a life-threatening situation, always call 911. Platinum Plus is the option on this page that includes the in-person ER sharing path.

Call 911 immediately Life-threatening

Chest pain, signs of a heart attack, stroke symptoms (face drooping, arm weakness, speech difficulty), severe bleeding, loss of consciousness, major trauma, severe burns, suspected poisoning, severe breathing difficulty, severe allergic reaction.

Virtual emergency Concerning but not life-threatening

Severe headaches, persistent vomiting, high fever, moderate allergic reactions, concerning symptoms that need a clinician’s eyes, or when you’re not sure whether to go in. A virtual clinician can evaluate, prescribe, or send you on if needed.

Urgent care Same-day, but not emergent

Sprains, common infections (UTI, ear, sinus), minor cuts and burns, fevers, flu symptoms, simple injuries. Use Gold or Platinum’s $50 in-person urgent care for these, or Silver/Platinum’s virtual urgent care if you’d rather stay home.

How Virtual Emergency Works

Three steps from symptom to care

On Silver and Platinum, virtual emergency is a phone call or video tap away. No waiting room, no copay.

01

Open your portal

From the member portal or telehealth app, select “Emergency” or “Urgent.” You’ll be routed to a clinician within minutes.

02

Connect with a clinician

By phone or video. Describe your symptoms, answer a few questions. The clinician evaluates and gives clear next steps.

03

Get clear next steps

A prescription, a follow-up plan, or a direct referral to an ER if that’s what’s needed — with documentation of the virtual visit.

In-Person ER with Plus

How real ER visits are covered

Platinum Plus layers medical cost sharing onto Platinum. When you actually need an ER, the community shares eligible expenses above your chosen IUA deductible.

Platinum Plus

ER visits, covered with Plus

Platinum Plus includes cost sharing for emergency room visits, hospitalization, ambulance, and maternity. You pick your IUA up front.

  • Any hospital, anywhere — no network restrictions on Plus
  • One IUA per medical need — not per visit. A hospital stay and the ER visit that led to it count as one need.
  • After the IUA is met, eligible amounts are shared with no annual or lifetime cap
  • Repeat ER visits for the same condition may carry an additional $500 personal responsibility per visit
  • Pre-existing condition rules phase in over time — see the full Plus guide
